A standard toilet changes a household

07 Aug 2026 Mlola, Lushoto

When Mr. Hussein and Mr. Miraji handed over a finished toilet chamber, it was more than concrete — it was protection from cholera and a new sense of dignity for the whole family.

For years the family relied on a poor, collapsing pit latrine with no roof, no air pipe and no separation between the chamber and the septic tank. Every rainy season brought the fear of cholera and typhoid.

Through RUSEO's hygiene and sanitation program, our technicians provided the materials and skills to rebuild the toilet to standard level — a sealed septic chamber, a proper air pipe, and a roof.

Today the household lives with dignity and far less risk of disease. It is one of many toilets we have rebuilt across the rural areas of Lushoto District, one family at a time.
